Dish for Dish
For my dish for dish I wanted to make something that would work to cut steak on and eat steak off of. I created a flat plate so bigger stakes could fit and so it could work as a cutting board. I attached legs to the bottom so that it would be easier to lift off flat surfaces. A couple problems I had with this dish were warping in the kiln and my handprint in the glaze. A leg fell off during the firing so the plate droops down on the side without the leg. When I was glazing I grabbed the plate which led to my fingerprints being left in the glaze.
Teapot.
I learned a lot from making this tea pot. My first teapot was thrown out so I had to remake this new one. I wanted to make a smaller pot, but I accidentally made it too small. The pot barely holds any water and the spout doesn't pour out well. My holes for the spout got sealed by glaze. I wanted to make a pot with no handle for the looks but I then realized the pot would be too hot to grab without a handle. I like the looks of the pot, but the functionality was not great.
Final Dinnerware set
For my final Dinnerware set, I made a set of one cup, one cylinder, one bowl and a plate. I glazed the cup to match the cylinder and I glazed the plate to match the bowl. I made the cup and cylinder blue to match the theme of water and the ocean. I picked purple for the plate and bowl because I thought it would work well with the blue color on the cups.
Text pot
For my text pot, I made a sushi dish with the words stop the killing engraved in it. When I came to the studio, I found my dish shattered so I had to restart. I made a new plate and it is drying now and in the next week I will engrave and glaze it. My phrase, stop the killing, represents the killing of animals around the world.
